Allison Cassens Hutchinson was an Olympic caliber swimmer and a commercial airline pilot. She held a Master's degree in Early Childhood Development and taught disabled children. Then, at 32 years of age, she was diagnosed with colon cancer. After numerous visits to cancer centers across the United States, Allison and her family made their way to Mary Crowley where every effort was made by Dr. John Nemunaitis and Dr. Joseph Kuhn to prepare and strengthen her for further treatment. Ultimately, Allison lost her life to cancer before treatment could commence, but the spiritual connection between she and these two physicians was not lost and continues today. She was so grateful for the care she received that before her death, she established a foundation to help advance cancer research. “Allison’s Friends of Hope," later changed to Allison's Hope Foundation, is a non-profit Foundation that provides annual funds to Mary Crowley to advance molecular based cancer research.
