SOUTHWEST AIRLINES TECHNOLOGY “LUVS” MARY CROWLEY!
Southwest Airlines Technology Classic Car Show Donates $21,000

Dallas, TX — The 17th Annual Southwest Airlines Technology Classic Car Show has raised $21,000 for Mary Crowley Cancer Research. The gift was given in memory of Frankie Goins, a former Southwest Airlines Technology employee who recently lost his battle with cancer and exemplified the Southwest culture of helping others. Mary Crowley Cancer Research is a nonprofit that offers cancer patients access to personalized, innovative clinical trials using the newest genomic and immune therapies. The funds will go directly to assist Mary Crowley patients in need of clinical trials.

Event Chair Kelly Brown nominated Mary Crowley as beneficiary of the Southwest Airlines Classic Car Show after a family friend received treatment at the cancer research center. Brown is a 17-year veteran of Southwest Airlines Technology; his band “The Bad Monkeys” provided musical entertainment at the event that took place on Thursday, September 24, 2015.

“Almost all of our employees have been affected by cancer, so we are excited to do what we can to make a difference,” said Amy Watkins, Committee Member and Merchandising Coordinator and Southwest Airlines Technology employee, whose husband Mark lost his battle with colon cancer in 2011. Brown, Watkins and colleague Libby Hall, a breast cancer survivor, presented the gift to Mary Crowley’s Vice President of Development Ellen Dearman at Mary Crowley’s Patient Research Center at Medical City.

The Southwest Airlines Classic Car Show took place at Southwest Airlines Corporate Headquarters. Honoree Frankie Goins, a classic car enthusiast and car club coordinator, was involved in the first semipublic exhibition of current and out-of-production vehicles in 1998 in keeping with the “Southwest Spirit” of giving back to the community with a “fun-LUVing” attitude. Now in its 17th year, the 2015 Classic Car Show exhibited 120 classic cars, and prizes were awarded in categories such as “best of” each decade, muscle cars, and vintage cars. In addition to entry fees, “chance to win” tickets, and t-shirt sales, Brown’s committee raised sponsorship funds from vendors. The Classic Car Show also benefitted Southwest Airlines Technology Catastrophic Assistance Charity.
